MVFF’s ¡Viva el Cine! initiative continues its annual celebration of Spanish-language and Latin American films and stories with this festive collection of shorts for families and younger viewers. Ben Garfield is a writer-producer-director based in London, working in documentary and fiction. His documentaries have explored various topics such as eccentric Italian chefs: Heart & Soul (2015), nationalist Russian cheesemakers: War & Cheese (2016), and Harry Potter-obsessed Cuban youths: Spelliasmous (2018), produced under the guidance of mentor Werner Herzog. Garfield’s films have played at Oscar® and BAFTA® qualifying festivals across the world and his fiction portfolio spans comedy and drama, includes a series of comedy sketch collaborations with BBC Sketchorama regulars Mixed Doubles, and the Virgin Media Shorts and Sundance “Time is Now” competition shortlisted drama Homey (2013).
