Description

Grab a guitar and a yellow legal padyou’re going into the studio with Green Day. More than 10 years after the release of American Idiot, the 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees present this time capsule rock doc that takes us inside the songwriting and recording process of their Grammy Award®-winning punk rock opera. Now that the album has achieved multiplatinum status and become a hugely successful Broadway show, looking back on them in the studio is both nostalgic and insightfulthe band knew they had something good, but even they didn’t know how good. Filmmaker John Roecker adorns the behind-the-scenes clips with stylish touches including a massive gig poster collage and a swingin’ ‘60s Fosse-choreographed set piece. Billboard, check. Broadway, check. Now Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool are poised to conquer the big screen.

Additional Information

Filmmaker and cultural deconstructionist John Roecker spent the majority of his childhood locked in his bedroom escaping reality, drawing pictures, and dreaming of making films and music. He eventually grew up and made films and music. Roecker’s documentary series, Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Gay Porn Stars, was banned by Amazon until media and activist pressure caused the sales giant to cave. It also features the music from the band Rancid. Svengali, Roecker’s neo-noir web series, crossed gender and cultural boundaries, while his first feature-length film, Live Freaky Die Freaky, managed to offend liberals and right wingers alike while disturbing even hardened horror genre critics such as FanGoria Magazine. He has had numerous art shows and curated the Punk Rock Exhibit “Forming” with actor Viggo Mortensen. He has worked with No Doubt, Rancid, Green Day, X, and A.F.I. Travis Barker among others. Roecker's new project is a musical collaboration called "Roecker/Melody" with fellow artist and musician Dylan Melody; their new record will be out on Frontier Records in 2016.
