Description
Growing up in East Baltimore surrounded by poverty and violence was difficult for Coffin Nachtmahr until he discovered a lifeline in the unlikeliest of pursuits: yo-yoing. In the subculture of “throwers” he found hope and self-worth, as well as purpose, acceptance and community.
Additional Information

Darren Durlach is an Emmy Award®-winning filmmaker whose career has taken him from the earthquake-ravaged streets of Haiti to the Boston Marathon finish line, where the latest documentary he co-directed followed bombing survivors returning to finish the storied race. In 2012 he was awarded the George Polk award with the Boston Globe Spotlight team for a documentary on the leniency Massachusetts judges show toward accused drunk drivers. Durlach co-owns Early Light Media, a video production company in Baltimore, where he directs, shoots and edits commercial projects.

As an award-winning journalist and disciplined photographer, David Larson uses his subject’s circumstances as a canvas for creative expression. His love for adventure and the human spirit has taken him around the world, photographing cultures and people along the way. After spending nearly a decade honing his craft as a photojournalist in the TV industry, he co-founded Early Light Media, a Baltimore-based company focused on creating powerful videos that shift perceptions and capture our interconnectivity as humans in a way that is both beautiful and relatable.
