Description

CFI kicks off the inaugural DocLands with Gingger Shankar’s Nari, a stunning short documentary blending film, archival footage and animation that will be accompanied by a live, original musical score featuring vocals, Indian percussion and Shankar’s unique double violin, with Carlo Ribaux on drums and Vivek Maddala on guitar and keyboards. The film and performance will be followed by a Q&A with the performers and the DocLands Opening Night Party at the Elks Lodge. Nari tells the life stories of Lakshmi Shankar and her daughter Viji, two extraordinary artists who helped bring Indian music to the West in the 1970s through their close collaborations with Ravi Shankar, the world-famous Indian composer and musician, and The Beatles' George Harrison. Viji’s daughter, Gingger Shankar, presents this unique multimedia project as a posthumous tribute to her mother and grandmother.

In Person: Creator/Director Gingger Shankar; Musicians Vivek Maddala, Carlo Ribaux
